Vote for Vision – Millions of Dollars to be Invested in Jasper!
October 23rd, 2015What a week it has been in Jasper! On Wednesday evening three new redevelopment projects in old, empty factories received support from our council. These are:
- Jasper Lofts Phase 2 – $9M: 44 additional workforce housing units in the former JOFCO building at 13th & Vine. This is on top of the 67 units already planned in the original $13M project. Both projects are from developer Miller-Valentine.
- Vine Street Lofts Senior Housing – $12M: 62 apartments for seniors in a new, safe environment built on the site of the former Jasper Wood Products/Monster Recycling property also at 13th & Vine. This also is another Miller-Valentine development.
- River Centre – $30M: 75 market rate apartments, commercial/retail space and a separate 80-100 room hotel all at the old Jasper Cabinet Company site next to the Jasper Train Depot along the Patoka River. River Centre is a development by Jane Hendrickson of Boxer Girl LLC in cooperation with Ed Curtin of CWC Latitudes and GHC – General Hotels Corporation – of Indianapolis.
That’s $50M of new investments in or near downtown Jasper announced this week!
Add the $50M of new investments by our local employers, the $7M of private investment from Smithville Fiber to build out our city with fiber optics at no cost to the taxpayer, the potential of the Jasper Cultural Center with the library and arts, The Parklands of Jasper and we are setting a blazing pace! And, it has all taken place in the four short years I’ve been your mayor.
As a Jasper voter told me this week, “Mayor, just one of these projects would please most cities. Jasper has a dozen or more. That’s incredible!” Indeed it is. And none of this occurred by accident or luck. It came about because we shared and implemented a new vision of Jasper built upon the peoples’ directives from our 2010 Comprehensive Plan.
When you hear other candidates talk about what they are going to do, think about what I have already done and Vote for Vision! Re-elect me Mayor of Jasper.
Early voting is underway now and election day is Tuesday, November 3.
