My Tomato Theory

September 16th, 2011

I am convinced life is one big classroom – a laboratory of learning.  So, I’ve made it my mission to attempt to discover something new every day.  In fact, I have a philosophy about this lifelong learning process.  I call it My Tomato Theory:

“When you’re green, you grow;
When you’re ripe, you rot.”

As long as a tomato on the vine is green, it’s growing. So it is with people, too.  Like my grandson, Evan, pictured in this blog, I have a youth-like fascination for the process of learning and I’ll use the five principles of the Tomato Theory to guide me as the next Mayor of Jasper:

   Principle One:  Take a genuine interest in people.

   Principle Two:  Be passionate about something.

   Principle Three: Expect difficulties.

   Principle Four: Rejoice in simple pleasures.

   Principle Five:  Smile

The Tomato Theory approach has enabled me to engage with people, to listen to them, and to ask questions.  All of these actions help me learn.  Now you know what propels me.
