In Partnership with Pfaffenweiler, Germany
July 13th, 2015There is nothing better in life than friends and family. Moments with them cascade into stories which manifest into laughter and there always seems to be plenty of food and drink to go around. The times of joy are not limited to small groups. Communities can have the same celebrations. Such is the 30 year partnership between Sisters Cities, Jasper and Pfaffenweiler, Germany.
Over the terms of multiple mayors, two continents and one, large ocean the people of Pfaffenweiler and Jasper have become one – in spirit, in camaraderie and in partnership. Shortly after I took office, Burgermeister Dieter Hahn and I spoke via the technology of Skype. He issued an invitation to visit Pfaffenweiler before their formal visit to Jasper in 2015. Being a new mayor with so much to do and learn I thought a trip to Germany was light years away.
As fortune would have it, Deena and I did make the trip to Europe in 2014 and spent four days in the quaint village set in a valley of vineyards. Welcomed by the famous Fire Brigade, greeted in the Jasper Room of the museum and treated to the finest food and beverages, we found a new home. In only a few short days we created a lifetime of memories and can’t wait to greet Mayor Hahn and 35 other visitors coming to Jasper for the Strassenfest from July 30-August 2.
Come join in the fun!
