Forever Grateful

October 19th, 2014

As we prepare for the 2015 Seitz for Mayor campaign the adage “time flies” is certainly true.  It seems like yesterday when I last posted my THANK YOU message for the 2011 campaign.  Since then we have moved this great vessel, named Jasper, into fresh waters and now we’re focused on our new journey.

Reflecting over the past few years I’m often asked about being mayor.  Don’t you get tired of all those phone calls at home?  How many meetings do you attend?  Isn’t it hard to go out to eat when everyone knows you?  My answers may surprise you.  First, I still contemplate each morning that I am the only person in this city of 15,000 with this position.  I rarely get calls at home because our departmental leaders are among the finest municipal employees in the state and they do their jobs well.  Meetings are a significant part of my days and nights though I look upon them as ways to create opportunities, solve issues and be informed.  As to being a public figure, Deena and I simply consider all time outside our home as public time and we prepare ourselves for conversations and pictures.

You elected me to represent the citizens of Jasper wherever I go.  I am not only your mayor I am our ambassador – whether it’s at City Hall, on the Spirit of Jasper, at the grocery store, in Indianapolis or Pfaffenweiler.  I am FOREVER GRATEFUL to live the life other mayors only dream about and I look forward to serving another term.
