Vote for Vision – It’s All About the J
October 26th, 2015Long before I was elected and many times since, I’ve uttered the words, “Local government is all about jobs, cats, dogs, streets and sewers.” In the last four years every decision we have made has been for Jasper – the J – and not for any political reason. In fact, the morning after winning election in 2011 I sent each elected official a note reminding them that the campaign was over and now was the time for focus on our city.
We still have that focus, that vision. Yet, we are facing opponents who attempt to strike fear over city finances when, in fact, we have a balanced city budget. They call for responsible spending when, in fact, every dollar spent is within a budget approved by the council and unspent money is returned to city accounts each year. They fear investing in our city or providing the tools for others to do so.
The bottom line is…these candidates and supporters fear change. They like being in a comfort zone. They want to roll back what has been accomplished in the last four years and return to the way things have always been done. They want Jasper to be the way it was 25 years ago. What they don’t realize is that our employers left that world a long time ago because they have to compete in the national and international marketplace. The fact is, the last four years we’ve been helping the city government of Jasper catch up to our workplaces and other Indiana cities. And we still have a lot to do.
If our local companies operated like our local governments the last 25 years we would be in tough shape right now. On the other hand, if our local governments worked like our local companies have for the last 25 years we’d be far ahead of where we are now. We weren’t put on this earth to stand still or be complacent. We are always to march forward and forward is where Jasper will go.
It’s all about the J.
When you hear other candidates talk about what they are going to do, think about what I have already done and Vote for Vision! Re-elect me, Terry Seitz, as Mayor of Jasper.
Early voting is underway now and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Thank you for your support and vote.
