April 19th, 2015- In fulfilling the goals of the City’s 2010 Comprehensive Plan – adopted before he took office – Mayor Seitz has appropriately employed the use of Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) funds.
- EDIT funds are separate from property taxes used in the General Fund.
- Jasper has a multi-million dollar EDIT fund reserve.
- Jasper receives $1.3M-$1.4M in EDIT revenue each year.
- Approximately $450,000, or nearly 33%, of EDIT monies are not even yet appropriated for use in 2015.
- The overall city budget, including EDIT, is set by the council.
- All departments, including the mayor, have limited spending authority without special approval by a city board at a public meeting.
- Mayor Seitz has not only kept spending under budget, unspent EDIT funds have been placed in reserve every year since he’s been in office.
